Eyosias Yoseph is an experienced Ethiopian electrical engineer with more than 5 years spent in the wireless semiconductor industry working in the development and commercialization of 5G technology. Outside work, he is busy building a commercial quality Zigbee radio from scratch. He is passionate about seeing Africans becoming inventors and makers of modern technology. He holds multiple patents in wireless technology and RF sensor fields. Before joining the industry, he was a Ph.D. student, and later a postdoc at Virginia Tech where he developed AI-controlled (cognitive) RF front-end technology for radio receivers. Eyosias graduated from Bahir Dar University with BSc in 2007.

The course will be teaching participants the practical aspects of converting a digital design idea into a working prototype using only free software tools. The course will identify what concepts the participant needs to master and what free development tools are available to carry out such kind of undertaking.

The course will be hands-on; we will be developing and fabricating a custom FPGA board from scratch. We will also be implementing (again from scratch) a full-fledged RISC-V based processor on the FPGA. It's going to be fun. At the end of the course, we hope to program our custom-made board using a generic C language.
